Five-time Olympic champion Ian Thorpe will make his return to competitive international swimming at the World Cup in Singapore on Friday after a five-year absence. The 29-year-old Australian retired in 2006 citing disillusionment with the sport but confirmed earlier this year he was returning, with a view to competing in the London 2012 Olympics.
