Just  a week after British racing driver Dan Wheldon, a former IndyCar champion and two-time Indy 500 race winner, was killed in a 15-car pile-up at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli has died after a horrific crash at the Malaysian Grand Prix in Sepang.

According to Spanish website El Pais, Red Bull’s Mark Webber signed his new contract with the team believing he had no real alternative. Webber has been in the frustrating position of also-ran this season, less than a year after coming so close to his own drivers’ championship.

Liverpool have confirmed that young midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has joined Blackpool on loan until December 31, 2011. Shelvey was signed by the Reds from Charlton in May 2010 but has thus far struggled to make an impression in the first team with a host of central midfielders all vying for a starting berth.

Sunderland defender Titus Bramble has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and possession of a Class A drug.   Bramble is in custody in Stockton-on-Tees and is currently being questioned by police following his arrest in the early hours of Tuesday morning in the Yarm area.

Stuart Broad has been ruled out for up to six weeks with a torn shoulder muscle after he was injured during the fourth one-day international against India on Sunday. That means he will miss the final ODI on Friday, the Twenty20 series against West Indies and the one-day series in India next month.

Liverpool striker David N'Gog has completed his deadline day move to Bolton.   The French striker, who joined the club from Paris Saint Germain in 2008, has failed to live up to expectations and following the signings of Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez in january, has found his first team opportunities limited.
