England cricketer Kevin Pietersen has once again regained the swagger and confidence that made him one of the most exciting batsman in world cricket, but it has not been an easy journey for the South African born star.
His return to form in the recent Test series against India saw Pietersen once again play with a freedom of expression that had been so lacking in the previous eighteen months.
The usual fluidity and dismissiveness of the bowlers was back, but Pietersen admits that it took a summer a self reflection in South Africa for the confidence to return.
In a frank and honest interview with Sportsvibe.co.uk, Pietersen has spoken of how he fell out of love with the game and was forced to reinvent himself.
"I needed to go back and realise where I came from and realise how lucky I was to be doing what I was doing. I had to gain that love and I took a serious knock but I am back up again now and throwing the punches.
"I had 18 months that were horrendous for me as a person and for my family. But to sort myself out is something that is amazing and I feel incredibly proud about it. Hopefully I have taken the knock and that can inspire on to do even greater things."
