Manchester United to Use Berbatov in Bid to Land Prolific Polish Striker

Manchester United believe that they may be able to use Dimitar Berbatov as a sweetener in any deal for Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international helped fire Dortmund to their second successive Bundesliga title and is widely regarded as one of the top strikers in the league after netting 30 goals in all competitions. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was able to witness the striker first hand when he travelled to the German Cup final to see Lewandowski score a hat-trick as Dortmund beat Bayern Munich 5-2 to lift the trophy. The Manchester Evening News has reported that United want to use Berbatov in part exchange for the 23-year-old as they have decided that the Bulgarian is no longer needed at the club. With Berbatov looking like leaving and Michael Owen already having left the club there is certainly space in the Manchester United squad for another forward. While Lewandowski has impressed in Germany there has little speculation about him concerning other European clubs but this could change if he impressed at Euro 2012. The paper believes that United's best chance of landing the striker will be by signing him before the European Championships when he may cost as little as 15million.

Tottenham Hotspur will listen to offers for Luka Modric in the summer but will stand firm when it comes to any offers for Gareth Bale. Goal. com have revealed that while Tottenham turned down an offer of 40million from Chelsea last season they will listen to offers after missing out on Champions League football and the revenue it generates. They believe that the likes of Manchester United Chelsea Manchester City and Real Madrid are all considering making offers for the playmaker who will be at Euro 2012 with Croatia this summer. Whether Spurs would be willing to sell to a rival Premier League club is unknown as they certainly did not want to do it last summer when Chelsea were the ones making an offer. While they may listen to offers for Modric goal. com believes that they will not be prepared to sell Bale who at 22-years-old is still very much in the infancy of his playing career. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp would prefer not to lose any of his players in the coming months and will be instead looking at brining new players to the club. Tottenham are working hard to try and seal deals for Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor who was the top scorer at Spurs last season and Ajax captain Jan Vertonghen.

Chelsea have moved to dismiss speculation that both Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres are set to leave in the summer with chief executive Ron Gourlay saying nothing has been decided. It had been suggested that after winning the Champions League Drogba would look to join up with his former team-mate Nicolas Anelka at Shanghai Shenhua. A number of reports said that Drogba gave an emotional farewell to his Chelsea team-mates after his contract ended but it seems the club are still hoping to convince him to stay. "Conversations with Didier have been going on for months and still are" Gourlay said on Chelsea TV as reported on ESPN. "He's made it clear he loves Chelsea and loves everything he's achieved at the club. Once we're ready to make an announcement we'll do so. "

Gourlay was also quick to address the comments from Torres who spoke candidly to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague about his future at Chelsea after starting the final against Bayern Munich on the bench. "Torres came on when we were behind and played a big part to help us win the Champions League" Gourlay added. "I'd be surprised if Fernando who's been awesome didn't want more time on the field every player does.

Lille could end up losing one of their star players in Eden Hazard during the summer and Garcia admits that it would be nice to keep hold of Cole for another season. "From a sporting angle we would like to keep him" Garcia told Sky Sports. "But he does not belong to us and he has not discussed matters with Liverpool. "It is a very fluid situation. The only certainty for the moment is that he is returning to Liverpool the club to which he belongs. "

What perhaps makes the deal even more difficult is that fact that Liverpool are currently attempting to find a new manager having made the decision to sack Kenny Dalglish.
