Shane Watson One Of Four Australian Test Cricketers Suspended

Australian Test cricket was in disarray today as their vice-captain Shane Watson and three other players have all been dropped for the third Test in India for a breach of discipline. Mitchell Johnson James Pattinson and Usman Khawaja are the three players alongside Watson who are set to miss the crucial game. The reason behind the omissions is even more baffling given the Australians are already 2-0 down in the four match series in India. The four players failed to make a presentation on how to improve the team following defeats in the opening two Tests. Watson has since left the tour however he was expected to leave before the fourth Test due to his wife being pregnant. When asked about his decision to drop the four players Coach Mickey Arthur said: "This is a line in the sand. "

It would appear that this tour to India has been a frontier too far for some of the Australia players as they have suffered two heavy defeats in two Test matches and with back-to-back Ashes series starting in July at Trent Bridge this episode could not have come at a better time for England supporters.

Cook Pleased To Welcome Back World Class Players

England captain Alastair Cook is looking forward to welcome back the likes of Ian Bell Jonathan Trott Graeme Swann and Jimmy Anderson ahead of their one-day test series in New Zealand on Sunday. Although the four have not warmed up in New Zealand Cook expects them to hit the ground running. "It's great to have those guys coming back" he told Sky Sports. "In one way they're a little bit undercooked - because the last time they played a game for England was 10 days before Christmas. "Belly and I played a couple of weeks ago so the other guys are probably a little bit underdone. They've had a bit of time off - which they needed. "They haven't had a game to practise here. But they're world-class players who've played here before. So it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

The Making Of Monty Panesar

Monty Panesar throws his head back and laughs at his own description of himself as a fielder under a high catch. It was like watching Edward Scissorhands coping with a cricket ball coming down at him from a great height he says shaking his head and rolling his eyes. Its a nickname I got at school and its fair enough. I know some of the fans laughed with me when that happened in a game. I also know that many more laughed at me. My way of dealing with it was to laugh with them but dont ever think the context of the match and what that dropped catch might mean was lost on me. Perceptions. They can take one incident to be created and a whole career to erase. The 30-year-old Sussex and England spinner recalls something the late and much-lamented Graham Dilley said to him when he was Panesars bowling coach at Loughborough. He said: Monty you can field for 49. 5 overs of a 50 over match and then because you dont do well with one ball people say: Oh yeah of course its Monty. Panesars smile deserts him. RIP Graham. And he was right.

England Secure Historic Series Win In India

England secured their first series victory in India for 27 years this morning as Jonathan Trott and Ian Bell both hit centuries on the final day of the fourth Test in Nagpur

Both Trott 143 and Bell 116 not out had struggled with their form for most of the series but it showed just how dominating England's performances had become as the tourists - who lost in Ahmedabad before winning in Mumbai and Kolkata - earned the draw they needed to secure an historic achievement. India took just one wicket all day as debutant Joe Root finished with an unbeaten 20 to go with his 73 in the first innings. With no result looking likely time was called early to proceedings and as the bails were lifted England were 352 for 4 with a lead of 356. England's final-day dominance was fitting because since being beaten by nine wickets in the first Test the tourists who have been notoriously poor on the sub-continent have outplayed their hosts in every department. While recent Ashes victories in 2005 and the 2009-10 tour Down Under will rank as some of England's finest displays in recent years many pundits and ex-players have described winning a Test series in India as the hardest thing to do in cricket.

Cook Praises Team After Third Test Win

England captain Alastair Cook praised his entire teams performance after their seven-wicked win in the third Test victory in Kolkata on his first tour as captain. "I can't fault the character they have shown since Ahmedabad" Cook told BBC Sport. "I can't praise the lads enough but we have to keep our feet on the ground because we're here to win the series. "

It was a great performance level for four and a half days. Everyone performed from one to 11"

"To keep India to 300 on that wicket was a fantastic effort and to get six wickets in that session really won us the game. It was a credit to the hard work they've put in that they can perform in these conditions. "

Cook made an England record 23rd century but was denied a double after a strange run-out. He admitted that breaking the record meant a lot to him. "I just wasn't thinking and before I knew it I was out" said the Essex man. "It was a frustrating way to go but if someone offers you 190 before the game you take it. "The record means a huge amount. I was probably more emotional when I got the 22nd century but it means a lot to be on top of that list.

The Day Ricky Ponting Was Asked to Move His Tricycle

Even the best of the best begin to decline as age seeps in but even though Ricky Ponting may not quite be as good as he was which is the reason why the Australian cricketer announced his retirement from test cricket today he will go down as one of the greatest men to have ever graced his sport. Second in the most number of runs ever scored behind Sachin Tendulkar with over 13000 third in test tons behind Tendulkar and Jacques Kallis 48 wins as Australian captain (a record) and 168 tests in a 17 year career matching Steve Waugh this truly has been one of the great great careers in cricket. And yet back in 1998 when I spent a week with the Australian cricket team Ricky Ponting was just simply "Punter" (because of his love of gambling) or "Junior" because of his baby face. In a team of legends and strong characters such as the Waugh twins Warne McGrath Langer Slater and Healy Ricky was very much the new kid on the block and for this crime alone he took much of the stick. I remember once lounging around in a pool on the Sunshine Coast withmost of the Aussie team after a day's training. A child's tricycle had been left by the side.

Ricky Ponting To Retire From Test Cricket

Ricky Ponting has announced he will retire after the third Test against South Afrca. Australias most successful captain will pull the curtain down on a 17 year international career in after the match in Perth which starts tomorrow. The 37-year-old cited a lack of form in the current series against the Proteas as the main factor in his decision. The batsman who will be 38 next month has scored just 20 runs in three innings so far with the final Test to come in Perth on Friday. He was expecting a far better return having come into the series on the back of some good form with the bat in State cricket. Its a decision I thought long and hard about put in long consideration about the decision at the end of the day it was about my results and my output in this series so far Ponting said. It hasnt been to the level required for batsmen and players in the Australian team. My level of performance hasnt been good enough. Ponting won 48 Test matches as captain surpassing Steve Waughs record of 41 during Australias 5-0 drubbing of England in 2009/10 series.

Pietersen Backs Captain Cook To Be England's Best

Kevin Pietersen has backed captain Alastair Cook to become Englands leading runs scorer in Test cricket after yet another century in the second Test in Mumbai. Cook hit 122 and Pietersen scored a classy 186 in their first innings to put England in command of the second Test against India in Mumbai which the visitors wrapped up this morning by 10 wickets. With those hundreds the pair both moved to 22 Test hundreds a record-equalling total for England. Cook and Pietersen joined a select group on 22 which includes Wally Hammond Colin Cowdrey and Geoffrey Boycott. Given the way the pair have played in this Test match it is surely a matter of time before one of them breaks the record. "Alastair Cook will comfortably surpass any hundred total that anybody else who plays for England (gets)" Pietersen told BBC Sport. "He is a super player he is a super guy. He should go on to score thousands and thousands more runs. "

Asked if Cook could be top of the list and never be beaten Pietersen said: "He should be he definitely should. "He's only 27. He's a young pup he is fit. He has a great head. He is very calm and nobody should beat him.
