The Serb had taken over the role of 'tournament favourite' from Roger Federer after Tomas Berdych beat the world number one on Wednesday evening.

It has been hard to tell what sort of form the 25 year old has been in during the tournament but, Djokovic, believes that this contest was closer than the score line suggested, "Even though it was straight sets it was much closer than that. He's a great player. I was lucky in the second set. We played some incredible points. It's always entertaining to play at night, so much fun. This is very special and I'm really happy to be in the semi-finals."

Djokovic was likely to be pointing towards the second set that was arguably the best of this tournament. After going a break down in the early exchanges, the Serb had three set points in the twelfth game.
