Miley Secures Second Medal as GB Secure Impressive Medal Tally

Hannah Miley, Jemma Lowe and Michael Jamieson have taken Great Britain's final medal haul from the European Short Course Championships to nine.

Lowe and Miley were each winning their second medal of the meet, which took place in Szczecin, Poland, with Jess Dickons, Georgia Davies, Amy Smith and Joe Roebuck also on the podium over the first three days of the competition.

Jamieson’s bronze was Britain's fifth of the week, adding to four silvers, Miley took silver in the 400 metres individual medley, her time of four minutes 26.06 seconds leaving her a second and a half behind Spain's Mireia Belmonte Garcia, who won Thursday’s 200metre event, while Miley was third.

"It's always hard to swim on the last day but I'm so happy with that” said Miley, "I knew if Mireia got too far away before the freestyle leg I'd have a struggle but I kept with her.  I'm not a strong short course swimmer but that will do my long course the world of good."

Lowe also took silver in the 100m butterfly, finishing just under half a second behind Danish winner Jeanette Ottesen and breaking her own Welsh record in 56.67secs.

"I was nervous before the race but getting silver in the 200m earlier in the week definitely gave me confidence for this and I really enjoyed it," she said, "I wasn't expecting that time though - I haven't done a best in that event for three years.”

Jamieson was third in the 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:03.77. Hungary's world record holder Daniel Gyurta took gold with Russian Vyacheslav Sinkevich second, while Jamieson's training partner Andrew Willis was seventh.

"I've been looking forward to this meet and I've been in really good form recently so it's good to keep the momentum going” he said, "I felt that there was an opportunity to win a medal here. It was a hard heat swim and I knew it would have to be another best time to get a medal."

The women's 200m freestyle final saw Rebecca Turner finish fourth and Anne Bochman ninth, each in their second final of the week. Smith was sixth in the women's 50m freestyle while Antony James was seventh in the men's 50m fly before anchoring the 4x50m freestyle team to the same position.
