McKeever Strikes Gold in Poland

Ed Mckeever continued his impressive career in the kayak single 200 metre event this weekend, sprinting to gold in the World Cup event in Poznan, Poland.

Returning to the course where he won the 2010 title, McKeever was dominant from the outset and tore up the field with relative ease.

Afterwards, the softly-spoken 27 year-old from Bath was typically understated.

"It's nice to start where I finished last year, being in the same location and getting the same result," he explained abruptly after clinching the race.

Elsewhere, fellow Brits Liam Heath and Jon Schofield fought to an impressive second place behind reigning world champions Arnaud Hybois and Sebastien Jouve in the K2 200 metre event.

Great Britain's head coach, Brendan Purcell, was very happy with the results during an impressive return at the season's first big event.

"Ed just did the job. He is a very professional elite athlete and has proved he can deliver performance after performance" said Purcell.

"It was an exciting race in the K2 200m between us and the French. The boys feel they didn't quite get their best race out but they demonstrated that they are very competitive."
