Melbourne Storm won the NRL Grand Final with a 14-4 victory over Canterbury Bulldogs this morning but the occassion was overshadowed by an allegation that James Graham bit Billy Slater during a 25th minute brawl.
The fight broke out between a number of players after a try from Storm but Billy Slater – widely regarded as the best rugby league full back in the world – was in the thick of it throughout.
The player accused of biting is former St Helens captain James Graham in his first season overseas who lost five consecutive grand finals with St Helens up until last October.
When referee Tony Archer asked Slater if the incident should go on report he replied, ‘Yeah f--- oath, he bit me on the ear’ and
it is not unusual for the NRL to hand out lengthy bans for biting incidents which Graham will face if found guilty.
Brad Morrin for banned for eight games in 2007 for biting whilst playing for Canterbury but Cronulla Sharks’ Daniel Moroko was found guilty of biting in June and – unusually - scraped through with a one-match ban.
