England Name 42-man Squad for South Africa Tour

England coach Stuart Lancaster has named his 42-man squad that will travel to South Africa on May 31, with Danny Care perhaps the most surprising name in the list.

The Harlequins scrum-half was dropped from the Six Nations after being charged with drink-driving and was forced to miss the World Cup in 2011 due to injury.

However, he has been added to the squad with Lancaster revealing that he felt the 25-year-old deserved the opportunity.

"Danny Care needed to reassure me he can lead himself well off the field. I am pleased with the maturity he is showing - but he knows he is treading a fine line," said Lancaster.

"I spoke to the solicitor involved in the Danny Care case and there'll be nothing happening during the tour. We understand the context of what happened and we are happy with the selection."

James Haskell and Ugo Monye have also returned to the squad, while youngsters Joe Launchbury and Christian Wade have also made the squad.

One notable absentee is Courtney Laws who is still missing through injury, but Dylan Hartley does return after serving an eight week ban for biting.

"Dylan Hartley has credit in the bank. He is in the best shape he has ever been and sometimes a break is not a bad thing," said Lancaster.

"We work hard on our discipline and we will have to reduce our penalty count - that's not just about Dylan. It's not just an issue for one person. It's one for the whole team.

"We'll make sure Dylan gets that message as well. We'll be having a strong conversation with him. We have to be able to trust the players"

In total there are 13 uncapped players in the squad which can be seen in full below.
