James Cracknell joined cyclists on Deloitte Ride Across Britain (Deloitte RAB), to complete the second half of the epic bike ride from John O'Groats to Land's End. He offered much needed encouragement to the weary riders who have already travelled over 640 miles from John O‚Groats to Ludlow.
He rode alongside British Para-Cycling team members Darren Kenny, Jody Cundy, David Stone, Shaun McKeown, Jon-Allan Butterworth, Tel Byrne and Helen Scott, who have already completed three 100-mile stages from Glasgow as part of their endurance training programme for London 2012.
"I am excited to be joining the riders today to hopefully reinvigorate the fatigued cyclists, who have already done so well. We are now over the half way mark on Deloitte RAB, and well on our way to smashing our target of raising £1million for ParalympicsGB over four years, as to date we have achieved an amazing £658k," said Cracknell.
Deloitte RAB is now open for cyclists to sign up to the 2012 ride, running from 8th - 16th September, following the Olympic and Paralympic Games in London. Deloitte RAB hopes the money that it raises for ParalympicsGB will give the athletes the best possible preparation ahead of London 2012.
"I want to thank all the riders for the effort and commitment they have shown over the past six days, and I hope they can keep the pedals going for the remaining three. All the money raised is for a great cause, which can only enhance the Paralympic team‚s chances of winning gold medals in 2012," added the former Olympian.
Jody Cundy, multiple World and Paralympic Champion also revealed his delight at the money being raised. "I'm really enjoying being back on Deloitte Ride Across Britain. Having seen such a positive impact to my times from taking part last year I was really eager to come back and use Deloitte RAB as part of my preparation for London 2012. To meet so many people who are fundraising for ParalympicsGB is fantastic and the total that has been raised will make a huge difference to the preparations of the British Paralympic team for London 2012.
