Phil Taylor was surprisingly knocked out of the PDC World Darts Championship by Dave Chisnall.
Taylor, who has won the PDC crown 13 times, was turned over 4-1 by Chisnall at Alexandra Palace.
The 51 year-old was magnanimous in defeat and conceded that he will retire in the next few years.
Dave was a better player," Taylor said. "When he took that fourth set it was a massive blow for me. Then I was struggling. It's all on the night and I wasn't good enough.
"I'm going to do another two or three years and then I'm going to retire."
The victorious Chisnall admitted that the win came as a surprise to himself as much as anyone, following his fifth set clinch of double six after Taylor twice missed attempts at double 20.
"I don't know how I did that. I threw well in the game but started getting a bit nervous at the end. When he gave me a chance I took it," he said.
"I've always thought I can beat anybody if I play my game. I thought I could beat him when I came into the championship."
