LUOL DENG GETS GREAT BRITAIN OFF TO WINNING START

Chicago Bulls star Luol Deng inspired Great Britain to victory in the opening game of their European Championship qualifying campaign against Hungary.

The NBA star was making his first competitive appearance for Britain in over a year and showed coach Chris Finch exactly what he had been missing. Deng scored 32 points and claimed nine rebounds in 91-82 victory.

Great Britain coach Chris Finch was delighted to start the campaign with a win on the road.

“This was a big win for us. Hungary are very good and they shot the ball well in the first half. We made some big plays down the stretch. Wins on the road in this group are worth two.” Finch told the Guardian.

Former Toronto Raptors forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu also made a big contribution with 14 points and 18 rebounds, while Nate Reinking added 16 points.

Next up for Great Britain will be a home tie in Newcastle against Macedonia who also started with a win against Ukraine.
