Italian international Alberto Aquilani has completed his season-long loan move to Juventus from Liverpool with the deal also including an option to make the deal permanent for £13.1m at the end of the season.
Rafael Bentiez signed the midfielder last summer for £17m from Roma but Aquilani struggled to make an impact in his first season. Injury hampered the first few months of his Anfiield career and he was unable to force his way into the team on a regular basis.
It was believed that the loan move was a chance for Aquilani to prove his fitness to new boss Roy Hodgson, but it now appears that a permanent move back to his homeland is the most likely option come the end of the season.
A Juventus club statement read. "Juventus Football Club announces that an agreement with Liverpool FC for the free temporary acquisition of the registration rights of the player Alberto Aquilani has been reached.
"The agreement also includes the option right, to be exercised at the end of 2010-11 season, for the definitive acquisition by Juventus of the football player at the price of £13.1m, to be paid in three years."
The 26-year-old was seen as a replacement for Xabi Alonso but only made 18 appearances scoring one goal. It now seems that he will be a direct replacement for Christian Poulsen who moved from Juventus to Liverpool earlier this month.
