Boxing star Amir Khan was voted one of the winners at the Change4Life British Asian Sports Awards 2010, scooping the Here and Now Champagne Moment of the Year Award.
The ceremony, held at the Grosvenor House hotel in Park Lane, celebrated the achievements of British Asians in the world of sport over the past year and it was an accolade that Khan was only too pleased to receive.
Khan said: “Every time I win an award, I get the same feeling as when I first won. It feels great to win the Champagne Moment of the Year. Last year I became world champion so it was a really good year for me.”
England women’s cricketer Isa Guha was presented with the highest accolade of the night, the Change4Life Sports Personality of the Year Award, for becoming an established international cricketer and playing an integral part in. the World Cup winning team last year.
She said: “Today’s ceremony was amazing! There were so many strong contenders up for this award and so I am truly humbled to receive it. It’s been a great year for women in sport and I hope that this award can inspire more women to get actively involved in sports.”
Amongst the other winners was Sri Lankan cricketer, Arjuna Ranatunga, for the Astra Lifetime Achievement Award and Amit Bhatia, Vice-Chairman of Queen’s Park Rangers, who was crowned with Emerald Knight Community Business in Sport Award.
