ALONSO SETS HIS SIGHTS ON THE CHAMPIONSHIP

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso believes that the F1 World Championship can be won with another six or seven podium finishes, as the Italian team continues to strive forward.

With the Spaniard 20 points adrift of Championship leaderMark Webber, and Ferrari trailing Red Bull by 74 points, he believes everything is to play for when the season continues at Spa-Francorchamps in just under three weeks time.

The former double World Champion said: "I think we can be happy with what we have achieved so far. We had some good races, some disappointing, some good luck, some bad luck, but we are still in there fighting for the championship and we are very close. We are evenly matched with all seven remaining races.

"It is time to remain calm and cool, the stress is high on the track and off the track, and we must be good at managing it. We always aim to win, not having this possibility is a frustration for the whole team."

Alonso thinks that leading the championship at this stage is not a decisive factor, as there is a lot more racing to come. "The stress is very similar in both cases, when you're the leader you have doubts, you know that at anytime you can lose the advantage, when you are behind it is worse because there is no room for mistakes, but it's nice when you start having good races and regain the belief in the comeback.

"Whoever gets six to seven podium finishes will win the championship, the important thing is to not make any mistakes and to have continuity, which so far until now no one has had."
