Lee Westwood ended a stunning week of golf to win the Thailand golf championship by 7 shots from Charl Schwartzel, with a score of 22 under par.
Westwood was in brilliant from in Thailand, after 2 rounds he was a record 18 under. Stating: "I've amazed myself really, it's been staggering. It's probably the best I've ever played." Schwartzel though is not Masters champion for nothing, and demonstrated the consistencey and determination of a champion to claw back to only 4 shots behind after the 3rd round, following a slight wobble from Westwood. Schwartzel kept the pressure on with a birdie at the first in the final round, but Westwood hit back with birdies on the second and third, and played majestically to hold off his competitor, before eventually holding a comfortable lead after Schwartzel dropped shots at the final two holes for Westwood to seal his second win of the month. Westwood later told Sky Sports he would be taking a break over Christmas to work on aspects of his game: "I'm going to continue to work on my fitness and all aspects of my game. I'm going in the right direction, I can see a lot of improvement and I'm happy with the way I've finished the year, I've won two out of my last three events."
He will be wishing though that this year could carry on, considering his form, he has risen above Rory McIlroy to second in the world rankings, and will have his sights set on Luke Donalds number one ranking. 2012 looks set to be a huge year of golf, with Donald, Westwood, and McIlroy all ending the year in great form and looking to win majors, a resurgent Tiger Woods and rising stars Martin Kaymer and Adam Scott hovering, it could be a year to remember
