West Ham Beat Liverpool to the Signing of Free-Agent Mohamed Diame

West Ham United are now the favourites to sign free-agent Mohamed Diame after it was revealed that the club were holding a second round of discussions with the defensive midfielder.

The Senegal international is available on a free transfer after deciding to leave Wigan after his contract ended and it had been believed that he would be moving to Liverpool.

Sky Sports has reported that despite Liverpool being the favourites to sign Diame, it is now West Ham that look like securing the signature of Diame.

The Hammers gained promotion back to the Premier League after beating Blackpool in the play-off final and manager Sam Allardyce will be looking to strengthen his squad.

The 24-year-old is believed to be holding talks with West Ham and it seems they are on the verge of a major coup as they look to beat a number of other Premier League clubs to Diame.

Wigan paid €3.8million for the midfielder in 2009 from Rayo Vallecano and he went on to make 89 appearances for the club in his three-year spell with the club.
