Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs is set to be rewarded with a new one-year contract after continuing to impress for Sir Alex Ferguson's side, despite his advancing years.
Should Giggs decide to accept the extended contract then he will be playing for the club beyond his 39th birthday as he looks to extend his amazing run of games that has seen him make close to 900 appearances for the club.
Giggs has seen his long-term colleague Paul Scholes return this season after initially announcing his retirement at the end of the last campaign and the winger does not want to finish his career prematurely.
“I thought he’d retired too early - a lot of people did,” Giggs told the Manchester Evening News. “He was still the best in training with the reserves, so he obviously felt he could still do it. Nobody was going to disagree with that and it was a massive boost when we found out he was coming back before the Manchester City game.”
The veteran midfielder has made 21 appearances this season as Manchester United look to try and catch near neighbours Manchester City who are currently level on points but top the table on goal difference.
Giggs is also hoping to add yet another league title to his collection after already being the most decorated player in the history of English football with 12 league titles to his name.
"The big one was overtaking Sir Bobby Charlton,” said Giggs. "But now I’ll just see where it takes me. We’ll sit down pretty soon and see what we want to do but at the moment I feel good and I want to carry on.”
United travel to Stamford Bridge on Sunday as they look to keep the pressure up on City but it is a ground where they have struggled in recent seasons as they have gone nine games without a win over Chelsea away from home.
