Tottenham Make Newcastle Striker Top Summer Transfer Target

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is considering launching a summer offer for Newcastle United striker Demba Ba after an incredibly successful first season with the North East club.

According to a report in the Metro, Redknapp has told chairman Danie Levy that the club need to sign a top quality forward to be able to compete in Europe and he believes Ba is the right man.

The Senegal international has scored 16 Premier League goals this season after joining Newcastle on a free transfer from West Ham and proving that he has plenty of quality in front of goal.

There are suggestions that Ba has a £7million release clause in his contract which would certainly represent value for money when considered how much the likes of Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres have struggled.

Tottenham may have a shortage of attacking options at the end of the season after they allowed Roman Pavlyuchenko to leave in January, while Emmanuel Adebayor is set to return to Manchester City in the summer.

Ba has struggled in the second half of the season but he has been asked to play in wide positions after the arrival of Papiss Cisse and it seems he was more proficient in front of goal when he was the sole striker.

While Tottenham are believed to be interested, much may depend on the future of Redknapp who is still the bookmakers favourite to become the next England manager.
