Tottenham and Liverpool Monitoring Dutch Winger Afellay

Ibrahim Afellay is preparing to hold showdown talks with Barcelona manager Tito Vilanova as he looks to find out whether or not he will be part of the new bosses plans for next season.

The Holland international was signed by Pep Guardiola from PSV Eindhoven back in January 2011 but he struggled to force his way into the first team before suffering a serious injury that ruled him out for much of last season.

There are a number of players to compete with in wide positions at Barcelona and Afellay is looking to find out whether he will be able to play a significant role.

Afellay was part of the Euro 2012 squad which severely struggled and he is hoping that he will have more opportunities to shine this season.

Talksport has reported that both Liverpool and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on the wide midfielder as they hope to be able to convince him they can offer regular first team football.

The duo had been fighting over Gylfi Sigurdsson, but it appears as though Tottenham have won the race to sign the Iceland international and they may now both compete for Afellay.

Much will depend on what Vilanova has planned for Barcelona next season, but both Premier League sides will be hoping they can persuade the 26-year-old to leave Spain.
