Spurs Open Contract Talks Over £11.5m Deal for England Winger

Tottenham Hotspur are set to renegotiate a renewed and improved deal for international winger Aaron Lennon, that will see the diminutive midfielder take home £55,000-per-week until 2016.

The contract would see Lennon earn approximately £11.5 million if the deal was seen out in its entirety, excluding the possibility of add-ons and bonuses. According to the Daily Express, Spurs are ready to extend Lennon’s current deal, which does not end until 2014, after the winger rediscovered his form to assist Tottenham in their challenge on the Premier League leaders.

The new offer will see Lennon receive a £10,000 pay rise from his previous £45,000-per-week, as Tottenham look to pin down their most important talents to extended deals.

After witnessing bitter North London rivals Arsenal lose the likes of Casc Fabregas and Samir Nasri in a manner that was out of their control, given the tentative contractual situation they found themselves in, Daniel Levy is proactively seeking assurances from their best players to commit themselves to the club.

Luka Modric remains top of Levy’s list with regards to settling new contracts, but Lennon’s importance to the team is underlined by the fact that there is little natural cover for the right midfield position.
