Newcastle United defender Davide Santon could be plying his trade in Serie A once again, after it was reportedly that he is a target for Lazio.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, the 21 year-old is high on their priority list, despite the player insisting that he is happy with life on Tyneside.
He is quoted as saying: “I'm really good. I have recovered from a knee injury and now I’m facing the pre-season with Newcastle at my best.
“I am fine here, now I know what the coach wants and I’m ready to play a great season. I think we can fight for a place in the next Champions League, it’s hard but we can do it.”
However, it looks like Lazio may be ready to test his and Newcastle's resolve with a bid. The Italian endured a hit and miss first campaign at St. James's Park, making 19 appearances and suffering from a series of injuries.
News that Santon is wanted by Lazio will be frustrating news for Toon boss Alan Pardew, who is reportedly planning on ultilising his vesatility by playing him on the left, as Newcastle look to bring French international right-back Mathieu Debuchy to England.
Santon is widely regarded as one of Italy's most promising youngsters, and his £5 million switch from Serie A giants Inter Milan to Newcastle last summer was considered one of the surprises of the summer.
