Newcastle to Make £5m Bid for Celtic Striker in January

Newcastle are reportedly set to make a move for Celtic striker Gary Hooper in the January transfer window as boss Alan Pardew continues to seek a replacement for the departed Andy Carroll.

Pardew has been on the look-out for a top-level centre-forward ever since Carroll left St James' Park for Liverpool in a British record £35m move in January.

Attempts to sign Daniel Sturridge and Kevin Gameiro proved unsuccessful with the Chelsea striker remaining at Stamford Bridge and the France international opting for a move to Paris St Germain.

Despite bringing in Demba Ba, who has started the season in good form, Pardew is keen to add more fire-power to his team.

And according to SunSport, Newcastle are set to offer £5m for Hooper when the winter transfer window opens.

Pardew has reportedly been keeping a close eye on the Scotland striker since the beginning of the season and is convinced he can replicate his SPL form in the Premier League.

Hooper was in prolific form for Celtic last season, scoring 23 goals, while he has already notched up four goals this campaign.
