Newcastle and Sunderland to Battle for Signature of £13m African Striking Sensation

North-East rivals Newcastle and Sunderland are set to battle it out for the signature of Freiburg striker Papiss Cisse, according to reports on Goal.com.

Newcastle are believed to have made an offer worth to be in the region of around £10million for Cisse toward the end of the summer transfer window, but the German side were holding out for £13m.

However after the recent loss of Asamoah Gyan Sunderland have also entered the race to acquire the services of Cisse.

The Senegal international forward recently signed a contract extension with Freiburg until 2014, but according to reports in Germany the club are expecting offers from Premier League clubs in the January transfer window.

Cisse has already scored five goals in six Bundesliga games this season and Freiburg will want to keep their prized asset until next summer, but it is believed there is a strong possibility the 26-year-old could leave in January.
