Manchester United Tracking Italy Under-21 Star Striker

Atalanta striker Manolo Gabbiadini is being targeted by Premiership champions Manchester United after watching the youngster score 10 goals in 13 appearances for the Italy Under-21 side.

The Daily Mail suggests that United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is considering making a £9million offer for the 20-year-old, despite the youngster making just eight appearances for the Atalanta.

With Dimitar Berbatov and Michael Owen both expected to leave Manchester United in the summer, Ferguson is keen to bring in some younger players to the squad.

United already have the likes of Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck battling for a starting role and the club are keen to persuade Gabbiadini to join the ranks.

However, should United decide to make a move for the striker then they will face plenty of competition with Serie A champions AC Milan and Juventus both chasing his signature.

Gabbiadini has really caught the eye playing for the Under-21 national side  where he recently scored a hat-trick in the 7-2 away win over Lichtenstein in October.
