Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is hoping to step up his interest in Everton defender Leighton Baines after seeing Jordi Alba complete his move to Spanish giants Barcelona.
United have been linked with the left-back for some time as Ferguson looks to find a long-term successor for Patrice Evra.
The paper believes that United are prepared to offer as much as £15million for the defender, while Everton are aware of the interest and want to demand £20m for the England international.
Baines was picked as a member of Roy Hodgson's squad for Euro 2012 but did not make an appearances as he played back-up to Chelsea's Ashley Cole.
The 27-year-old has been one of the most consistent performers in the Premier League for the last five years, since making his move to Merseyside from Wigan.
Ferguson has options at full-back with Rafael and Fabio Da Silva, but it is clear that he does not yet trust the Brazilian brothers and he may now try to persuade Baines to make the move to Old Trafford.
