Sir Alex Ferguson has completed the signing of former Manchester City central defender Freddie Veseli in a shock deadline day deal, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Though 19 year-old Veseli played a prominent part in the Blues pre-season tour of North America, he has found his first team opportunities severely limited since.
Indeed, the former Under-17 World Cup winning captain of Switzerland was frustrated to see Roberto Mancini draft Karim Rekik into his squad in the wake of Vincent Komapny’s suspension.
Now, with Manchester United rather bereft of defenders themselves thanks to injury, Veseli will have a chance to assert himself on a Premiership club with a completely clean slate and prove that his move from Lausanne to these shores back in 2008 was worthwhile.
While there has been no official comment from the Red Devils, it is thought the player has undergone a medical.
Veseli's agent, Adam Bouskouchi - while not indicating where Veseli was heading for - did advise that news could be expected "very soon" on his Twitter account.
