Manchester United Look Likely To Miss Out On Spanish Target

Manchester United look likely to miss out in their pursuit of rumoured transfer target Javi Martinez, after it was claimed that the Athletic Bilbao star was nearing a move to Bayern Munich.

According to reports in talkSPORT Martinez, who is currently on international duty with Spain at Euro 2012, is nearing the move to the German giants, with Bayern chiefs planning a squad overall this summer.

Manchester United and newly-crowned Premier League champions City were thought to be battling it out for the 23 year-old defensive midfielder, who can also operate as a centre-back, but the player has reportedly indicated a desire to head to Germany.

Martinez is valued at around £25 million, and while United and City would likely try and negotiate his value, it has been claimed that Bayern Munich are prepared to pay the full amount for a player they are hoping will sure up their back line.
