Manchester United are being linked with exciting Bayern Munich full back David Alaba, after Austrian national coach Marcel Koller hinted at a possible move.
The 20 year-old has gained rave reviews in Germany, establishing himself in Louis Van Gaal's squad and subsequently winning the Austrian Footballer of the Year award.
In an interview with Spox.com, Austrian boss Koller praised the youngster, who operates at left back but can also play in a defensive midfield role, and admitted that he would shine at a club like Manchester United, although he was quick to play down a move.
“I am convinced that David would prevail, whether at Manchester United, Barcelona or Real Madrid. I see absolutely no problems but also no reason to leave Bayern,” he said.
Alaba has been lauded for his passing ability and assured attitude on the ball.
With Patrice Evra entering the latter stages of his Manchester United career and Brazilian left-back Fabio failing to live up to his potential, Alaba could well prove to be an astute signing by Sir Alex Ferguson.
At such a young age Ferguson would be able to hone is raw talent into a more attacking figure, much as he has done with Chris Smalling during his two years at Old Trafford.
However, any such move would depend on Bayern Munich, who themselves rate the player highly.
