Manchester United Line Up £20m Move for Denmark Intertaional Midfielder

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is preparing to rival Manchester City for the signature of Ajax's Christian Eriksen.

The 19-year-old is being touted as one of the hottest young prospects in Europe and has been linked with moves to Manchester City and Spanish giants Barcelona.

Eriksen has been in great form for Ajax this season and scouts from across Europe have been over to Holland to watch the attacking midfielder in action.

It is now believed that Manchester United have entered the race for the Denmark international as Ferguson is a huge admirer of the youngster.

During the course of the summer the United boss had a policy of bringing the best young talent to Old Trafford including Phil Jones, Ashley Young, and David de Gea.

It is felt that Ferguson is looking to continue his policy of buying youth as Manchester United prepare to make a £20million bid in order to acquire the services of Eriksen once the January transfer window opens for business and Ferguson sees him as a long term replacement for the retired Paul Scholes.

Speaking to the Daily Star a source said: "United are hot on him. Trust me, they want him and £20million is the price being bandied around.

"Yet ironically both Chelsea and Spurs turned him down several years ago because they thought he was too small. He has since turned into a world-class player."
