According to a report in the Daily Mail this morning, Harry Redknapp is becoming desperate in his attempts to secure Luka Modric’s services at White Hart Lane for another four years.
26 year-old Croatian international Modric and his representatives have reportedly been locked in negotiations for weeks now, hoping to patch up relationships between them and the club after a manic close season.
The player was subject of intense press speculation over the course of the summer, first strongly linked with a move to Manchester United before rumours of a transfer to Chelsea surfaced and lingered.
Modric has allegedly remained firm in his sdesire to play Champions League football – the initial reason for whispers of his Spurs exit – and is therefore reluctant to sign anything until after the end of the season.
Such news will come as music to the ears of Sir Alex Ferguson, who is still searching for a player with enough midfield creativity to fill the void left by Paul Scholes’ retirement.
Modric has been one of Spurs’ leading lights so far this campaign, and was man-of-the-match in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa on Monday evening.
