Manchester City Midfielder Set for Eastlands Exit After Refusing New Deal

Nigel De Jong will be sold by Manchester City at the end of the season after the midfielder refused to sign a new and improved contract, the Sun has reported.

The combative midfielder was reportedly offered an increase on his £75,000 a week deal to £100,000, but he believes he is worth more than what City are willing to give him.

However, City are not willing to budge on their offer and are ready to listen to offers for the Holland international at the end of the season.

Following his £17m arrival from Hamburg in January 2009, the 27-year-old became an important part of the City side firstly under Mark Hughes then under current manager Roberto Mancini. His tough-tackling, no-nonsense style also made him a fans favourite at Eastlands.

However, this season he has started just four games with Yaya Toure, his competition for the defensive midfield berth, proving indispensable to City's cause, while Gareth Barry and James Milner have also been preferred in central midfield.

According to the Sun, City are hoping to fetch around £10m for De Jong, who will have just 12 months left on his deal come the end of the season.
