Liverpool look ready to make a move for Wolfsburg outcast Diego, after the club's boss Felix Magath said that the player must either leave or face life on the sidelines.
The Brazilian playmaker, who moved to the German outfit last summer in a club record deal, would be available for a cut price €10 million, a price which would not prove a stumbling block for Kenny Dalglish and Liverpool.
According to German publication Bild, Magath said: "If a club wants to sign Diego, they need to get in touch with us."
Earlier in the season, the player indicated that a move away from Germany interested him, and when posed with the question of a move to Liverpool he said: "Liverpool is one of the biggest clubs in the world. An interest I am honoured."
Diego's days at Wolfsburg appear numbered, as the club look to rebuild after narrowly escaping relegation. The club are lining up a ready made replacement in Niko Kranjaer, and his transfer would start a transfer merry-go-round.
It is believed that the Brazilian is on £150,000-per-week, and only Liverpool are the only team in contention who would offer a similar wage.
The Merseyside club may face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea, who have been keen admirers of the play-maker for a number of seasons. Should Chelsea declare interest, it would start a bidding war for the player.
Diego has scored six times in thirty appearances for the German side, but has largely failed to repeat the form he showed a Werder Bremen during his last stint in Germany.
