Liverpool have turned their attention to Bologna winger Gaston Ramirez, as Brendan Rodgers looks to add to his attacking options for the new season.
Rumours of a move have gathered pace after the Uruguayan’s agent flew over to England to possibly discuss a deal for the attacking sensation.
Uruguay are in Group A with Great Britain for the Olympics and beat U.A.E 2-1 in their opening game last night, with Ramirez netting the equaliser on 42 minutes. The 21 year-old has plenty of pace and would be a great addition to the left side of midfield for Rodgers, who has been put off by the £10 million price tag that Fulham have put on Clint Dempsey.
Ramirez’s versatility is also appealing to the Reds, as he can also play as a striker. He’s rated as one of the hottest talents in Italy and has been tracked by Barcelona, as well as big spending Manchester City and AC Milan over the last six months or so.
But it could be Liverpool who steal in for his signature, according to the Metro, as his agent Pablo Betancourt said this: Gaston is ready to leave Italy - so much so I am in England for talks with a Premier League club.
'He is one of the most important players in Uruguay, so there are no shortage of offers.'
Tottenham and Inter Milan are two other clubs believed to be interested, but are apparently reluctant to pay the £15 million that Bologna want for the tricky winger. As a result, Liverpool are confident they can land their man but would have to wait a couple of weeks while the young star competes for his country in the Olympics.
He is contracted to Bologna until 2016, but fellow countrymen and Liverpool players Luis Suarez and Sebastian Coates could convince the midfielder to join them in Merseyside.
