Liverpool striker Craig Bellamy has declared that it is a dream to be able to play against the team he supported as a boy and is hopeful that he will be able to mark his return to the Liverpool first team at Wembley.
Bellamy had been ruled our in recent weeks due to back injury but he has now been declared fully fit and will be part of the squad that travel to London for Sunday's Carling Cup final.
Should the Welsh striker score he has revealed that he will not celebrate against a club he hods so dear to his heart, but it will be a major personal achievement should Liverpool win as it will be Bellamy's first senior honour in English football.
“I certainly won’t celebrate. I have no aspirations towards celebrating at all,” Bellamy told the Daily Mirror. “It will be strange situation as it’s the first time I’ve ever played against them. It’s not something I’m looking forward to doing, to be honest. My father’s a big Cardiff fan and it’s the club I used to go to when I was very young.
“I tried not to celebrate against Manchester City, in the semi-final – I tried to hold myself back. But in the occasion and the moment you get a little bit carried away.”
Bellamy will first have to win back his place in the side after Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez linked so well in the recent FA Cup victory over Brighton at Anfield.
However, Bellamy declared that no matter what the outcome is on Sunday he is simply happy to have achieved his life ambition.
“I set one ambition in my life to play for Cardiff, and I was able to do that. Now, if I’m involved, I’ll be able to play against them in what is a great occasion for this club and an incredible occasion for Cardiff City,” added Bellamy.
“That makes it a great final. Football is so unpredictable – I didn’t think I would ever be playing a cup final against Cardiff, and now it’s just about to happen.
“And I’m relaxed about it. Honestly. If I win, I win. If I don’t, I don’t. I will not lose one second of sleep over it. Not one."
