Liverpool Rumoured To Be Battling Russian Giants For Peruvian Winger

Fiorentina winger Juan Manuel Vargas has emerged as a surprise target for Liverpool, with reports indicating that the club are ready to battle Russian giants Zenit St. Petersburg for his signature.

According to the Metro, the Peruvian international appears certain to leave the Stadio Artemio Franchi in the summer, after four years in Florence.

The 28 year-old can play anywhere along the left flank, initially being deployed as a left-back at Fiorentina, before being played in a more advanced position.

Liverpool are rumoured to be keen on brining the former Catania man in, to give more attacking options in wider positions.

However, as the Metro continue, Zenit are considered to be the front-runners for Vargas's signature, with the club having previously failed to bring the wide-man in during the winter transfer window.

Vargas will be entering the final year of his contract at the end of the season, and with suggestions that the player wants to leave, Fiorentina would no doubt want to recoup some of the €12 million they paid for him.
