Liverpool Reportedly Closing In On Real Madrid Star

Liverpool are reportedly closing in on Real Madrid star Nuri Sahin, after it emerged that club officials were in Spain to negotiate a deal.

Spanish publication AS claim that Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre has made first contact with Madrid bosses, as Turkish international Sahin prepares for life away from the Bernabeu.

Sahin, who only joined Real last summer, has found first team opportunities limited following a bout of injury and tough competition for places in Jose Mourinho's starting XI.

The former Borussia Dortmund star had been strongly linked with a loan move to Arsenal, but following the Gunners signing of Malaga's Santi Cazorla, and suggestions that Barcelona target Alex Song will remain in north London, talk of Sahin's switch has slowly started to die down.

However, it has since emerged that Liverpool are interested in the 23 year-old, after new Kop boss Brendan Rodgers was alerted to his potential availability.

Liverpool have already signed Swansea's Joe Allen this summer, but Rodgers is thought to be keen on continuing his midfield recruitment by adding the attacking flair of Sahin to his squad.
