Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish appears to have turned his attention to Vilarreal midfielder Santi Cazorla after goalkeeper Pepe Reina recommended his international team-mate.
Dalglish has been working closely with director of football Damien Comolli to try and come up with a shortlist of potential summer signings and have already captured their number one target Jordan Henderson.
The Reds have also been keeping tabs on Aston Villa winger Stewart Downing and Blackpool playmaker Charlie Adam. Both players have been linked with a move away from their prospective clubs and Liverpool appear to have the funds to make a number of summer signings.
Cazorla, a Spanish international who helped his country win the European Championships in 2008, has more than 30 caps for La Roja and has the ability to play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder.
Reports in the People suggest that Liverpool's Spanish stopper Reina has told Dalglish that he believes Cazorla has what it takes to be able to succeed in the Premier League.
The 26-year-old has been one of Vilarreal's star performers over the fast few seasons and last season helped the club finish fourth in the league, 34 points behind champions Barcelona.
Now, sources suggest that Liverpool are prepared to bid as much as £18million for the versatile midfielder who is rumoured to have a release clause of £28m in his current contract.
Liverpool are keen to add some width to their squad after having to rely heavily on Dirk Kuyt and Maxi Rodriguez to play in the wide areas.
