Liverpool Alerted As Rumoured Target Plans Showdown Talks

Liverpool are believed to be on alert after it was reported that midfield target Adam Johnson was planning showdown talks with Manchester City.

Former Middlesbrough wide-man Johnson has struggled to nail down a starting place in Roberto Mancini’s side since his switch in 2010, and according to Goal.com will meet with the City boss to discuss his future at the club.

The 24 year-old managed just four Premier League starts last season as City won the Premier League, and his bit-part role has fuelled speculation linking him with a move away from the Etihad.

Johnson was believed to be disappointed at missing out on selection for the European Championships, and understands that he needs regular first-team football to stand a chance of catching England boss Roy Hodgson’s eye.

He has been strongly linked with moves to Liverpool and Sunderland, but with City looking for a fee of around £15 million for the wide-man, it is thought that only Liverpool will contend for his signature.

Goal claim that new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is an admirer of Johnson and is prepared to enter negotiations to get his man.
