Ghana striker Asamoah Gyan has arrived in Sunderland ahead of his proposed move from Rennes to the north east club.
Gyan was one of the stars of the 2010 World Cup where he scored three goals and helped Ghana progress to the quarter-finals.
Steve Bruce has been looking to bolster his forward line after the departure of Kenwyne Jones to Stoke. With the transfer window shutting at 6pm this evening, Sunderland are keen to tie up the deal as soon as possible.
It has been widely suggested that the fee will be in the region of £12 million which is subject to the pact forward passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
The 24-year-old striker joined Rennes from Italian side Udinese in 2008 and went on to score 14 goals for the French club.
