Dalglish Targets Move for Celtic Left-Back

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is ready to make his first summer signing as he looks to improve his shaky defence with the signing of Blackburn's giant centre-back Christopher Samba.

The 27-year-old signed for Blackburn in 2007 and quickly established himself as one of the most dominant defenders in the Premier League. As well as his strengths at the back, Samba can even provide an attacking threat and has scored 14 goals.

Arsenal once again finished the season trophy-less with the majority of critics pointing to defensive frailties with Sebastien Squaillaci and Laurent Koscielny having to play the majority of the season thanks to injuries to Tomas Vermaelen and Johan Djourou.

Wenger knows that he needs to improve his defence and is ready to make an £8million offer for the Blackburn man who was close to leaving Ewood Park in January.

"‘Everybody knows that I am an ambitious player. I think a move to Arsenal was very close in January but that is life," revealed the giant defender.

Arsenal have already completed the signing of young English defender Carl Jenkinson from Charlton but Wenger knows that he needs to bring a number of players to the club if they north London side are to once again challenge for the title.

Samba has plenty of experience in the Premier League and would add some much needed steel to the Arsenal backline, however, they may face some competition for the defender who has drawn interest from a number of European clubs.
