Dalglish Targets £12m Deal for Newcastle Star as Carragher Successor

Liverpool are reportedly maintaining their interest in Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini and could be set to make a bid in the new year.

Various reports have linked the Argentina defender with a move to Anfield as Reds boss Kenny Dalglish looks to bolster his back-line before Jamie Carragher calls time on his playing days.

Coloccini is yet to agree to a new deal at Newcastle and with 18 months left on his current contract, the Daily Star claim Dalglish will attempt to put pressure on the situation by making an offer in January.

Should Liverpool's interest turn the 29-year-old's head, Newcastle may reluctantly agree to sell to avoid his contract running down. An offer of £12m will reportedly be enough to tempt Newcastle into negotiating a deal.

Coloccini arrived at St James' Park for £6m in the summer of 2008 and despite a shaky start to his Toon career, has established himself as one of the most highly-rated defenders in English football.
