Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is reportedly keeping a close eye on Borussia Dortmund playmaker Shinji Kagawa as he contemplates making an offer for the midfielder in January.
The Reds were one of the biggest spenders over the summer as Dalglish attempted to build a squad capable of pushing for a top four finish and so far the results have been fairly positive for the Kop legend.
Despite losses to Tottenham and Stoke, Liverpool currently find themselves in fifth place with new signings Jose Enrique, Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson all playing a vital role.
However, it seems Liverpool will still look to further strengthen their squad when the transfer window opens in January and Japan international Kagawa could be the latest player to arrive at Anfield.
Kagawa shot to prominence last season as he helped Dortmund win the Bundesliga title, scoring 12 goals in his first season with the club.
The 22-year-old can operate as an attacking midfielder or just behind a striker and is believed to have gained interest from the likes of AC Milan and Juventus.
Last week it was widely reported that Dalglish had sent scouts to watch the youngster in action and it is believed that should Liverpool try and tempt the player away then it would take a bid of at least £18million.
Dortmund have had a difficult start to the season as they attempt to retain their title, losing three of their first eight games and already falling six points behind leaders Bayern Munich.
Liverpool are confident they can convince Kagawa to make the move to the Premier League, while the club have been told to try and sign a big name Asian player as the owners attempt to increase their profile in the region.
