Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish was ecstatic after seeing his side secure a 2-2 draw against Manchester City and progress to the final of the Carling Cup.
The Reds twice came from behind as Nigel de Jong and Edin Dzeko had looked as though Manchester City would be heading to Wembley once again after winning the FA Cup last year.
However, a Steven Gerrard penalty and a late Craig Bellamy goal saw Liverpool through to the final at Wembley, their first appearance at the famous stadium since the 1996 FA Cup final loss to Manchester United.
Liverpool have appeared at the Millenium Stadium while Wembley was being rebuilt, but it is their first cup final appearance since the 2006 FA Cup final victory against West Ham.
Dalglish was clearly emotional as the final whistle sounded and after the game he was quick to praise his players for responding so well after a shock 3-1 loss at the hands of Bolton.
"The players were magnificent. Everything we thought was lacking on Saturday was there in abundance tonight, so they deserve great credit for the performance and result," said Dalglish in the post match press conference.
"It's great for the people who have stood by us because it's not been too easy a time for Liverpool Football Club over the last couple of years or so, and it is fantastic for the new owners.
"I've said many times before, if we all stick together, we'll be a stronger force - and this is a huge reward for everybody that's got any affiliation to Liverpool Football Club in any way, shape or form."
While it was a strong team display from Liverpool against the Premier League leaders, it was man of the match Craig Bellamy who earned many of the plaudits.
"He showed a lot of quality. It's all very well talking about his effort and commitment - that is always there. Tonight he was fantastic in the quality of his performance as well," Dalglish said.
"We've spoke about him many times in the past and waxed lyrical about him, and rightly so. He was fantastic tonight, but then every single one of them was fantastic.
"Steven (Gerrard) sat in a position that probably isn't his own, but he sacrificed himself for the sake of the team and the club. That is great testimony to him.
"We were delighted with everybody, but certainly Craig put in a fantastic performance."
The former Manchester City striker will once again have the opportunity to pay against a former club when he meets Cardiff City in the final as the Reds look for their first trophy since 2006.
