Newcastle's new £7.5m signing Papiss Cisse has revealed his delight at signing a five-and-a-half year deal with the club.
The Senegal international, currently away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, was signed from German side Freiburg having scored 37 times in 65 appearances.
"It is an honour to play for such a big club," said Cisse, who was handed the legendary number nine shirt.
"I want to pay back the confidence the club have shown in me and give the supporters something to be proud of.
"I am aware of the huge importance of the number nine shirt and when I spoke with the manager he made it very clear how important this shirt is.
"I will treat it with respect and I hope to do my very best in this shirt."
Cisse also revealed that there were other clubs interested in signing him, but once Newcastle's interest became concrete he was desperate to move to St James' Park.
“There were other clubs interested, but the moment Newcastle showed their full interest I was delighted to come – there was only one place for me," he told the Newcastle Chronicle.
“Now, I need to seize the opportunity and show everybody what I can do."
Cisse will be paired with international teammate Demba Ba, but Newcastle fans must wait to until the end of Senegal's participation in the Africa Cup of Nations before they see their new signing in action.
