Chelsea Keeper to Return to Atletico Madrid

Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will spend next season on-loan at Atletico Madrid after it was confirmed that the Spanish had chosen to extend his stay at the club.

The 20-year-old spent last season on-loan at the club after being signed by Chelsea from Belgian side Racing Genk on a five year contract.

Atletico had sold David de Gea to Manchester United and were in the process of looking for a new number one, therefore Courtois fit the bill perfectly and he went on to play 37 league games last season.

Courtois also impressed in Europe as he ended up playing 15 games to help the club lift the Europa League as he kept a clean sheet in the final as Atletico beat Athletic Bilbao 3-0 in the final.

"Thibaut Courtois will next season play at Atletico Madrid after Atletico on Wednesday reached an agreement with Chelsea on transfer for a year,'' read a statement on the La Liga sides official website, as reported on ESPN.

The young Belgian keeper is still considered second choice to Petr Cech at Chelsea, but the club rate him very highly and are keen for him to keep playing competitive football.
