BRUNO ALVES SET FOR ZENIT MOVE

Zenit St Petersburg have agreed to sign highly rated Portugal defender Bruno Alves from Porto in a deal reported to be worth £18 million. The deal is subject to the 28-year-old passing a medical at the Russian club.

It would be a major coup for the St Petersburg club as Alves has been attracting interest from a number of Premiership clubs. The central defender played 120 times for Porto and scored 14 goals as well as claiming four consecutive Portuguese titles.

In 2009 he was named club captain and was widely touted as one of the best centre backs in Europe. Alves also played every minute of Portugal’s World Cup campaign and now has 35 caps to his name.

Zenit are currently top of the Russian championship with 39 points from 15 games.
