Benayoun Unlikely to Return to Arsenal as he Looks to Impress Di Matteo

Yossi Benyoun is unlikely to return to Arsenal as he admits that he is now hoping to remain at Chelsea and force his way into the first team plans of manager Roberto di Matteo.

The former Liverpooll midfielder was allowed to move to Arsenal on a season-long loan after Andre Villas-Boas was put in charge at Stamford Bridge, but injuries limited his appearances at Arsenal.

Benayoun went on to make 19 league appearances for Arsenal last season as he scored four goals and will be hoping if he stays fit that he can do the same for Chelsea.

He has played just 11 games in all competitions for Chelsea since making the £5.5million move from Liverpool where he was a regularly used by Rafa Benitez both domestically and in Europe.

“Now I am back at Chelsea and I’m trying to do my best in front of Robbie [Di Matteo]. We will just have to see what happens," Benayoun told the Evening Standard.

Chelsea are certainly not short of options in midfielder after completing the signings of Eden Hazard and Marko Marin, while Juan Mata will also provide competition.

However, there is little indication that Arsenal are interested in making his loan move a permanent one and Benayoun may need to impress during pre-season with Chelsea.
