Arsenal Quoted £20m For Midfield Enforcer

Arsenal have reportedly been quoted £20 million for Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tiote, after the Gunners enquired about his availability.

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal are just one of many European sides keen on signing the Ivory Coast star, and have appeared to have made the first move by hinting at a transfer.

The 26 year-old enjoyed a stand-out season for Newcastle last year, earning rave reviews for his robust midfield play, and subsequently found himself linked with mega-money moves to Manchester United and Chelsea.

Newcastle have tried to fend of interest by tying him down to a new-long deal that will see him under contract until 2017. However, that has not appeared to have detered Arsenal, who are believed to have turned their attentions to Tiote after backing out in their pursuit of France star Yann M'Vila.

With Gunners' captain Robin van Persie seemingly on his way out of the Emirates this summer after confirming that he will not agree a new deal with one year to go on his contract, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger appears determined to continue a period of rebuilding that has seen Lukas Podolski and Olivier Giroud join the club.

It is unsure whether Arsenal will be willing to match the £20 million valuation, but they may attempt to strike a deal for a lower sum.
